Global Entrepreneurship Week: Celebrating Ideas, Innovation, and Opportunity

Every business starts with an idea.

Sometimes that idea comes from seeing a problem that needs to be solved. Sometimes it grows from a skill, a side hustle, a new product, or simply the desire to build something of your own.

During Global Entrepreneurship Week, November 16–22, 2026, communities around the world are celebrating entrepreneurship and the people willing to take ideas and turn them into action. The week is designed to help more people recognize entrepreneurship as a possible path and connect aspiring business owners with the networks, tools, and support they need to take the next step.

For the Shoals Business Incubator, that mission is something we believe in all year long.

Entrepreneurship Creates Opportunity

Entrepreneurs do more than start businesses. They create jobs, introduce new products and services, solve problems, strengthen communities, and contribute to local economies.

A new business may begin with one person working from home, testing a product, serving a few customers, or building a business on the side. Over time, that idea may grow into something that supports employees, serves hundreds of customers, or creates new opportunities for other businesses.

Entrepreneurship gives people the opportunity to take what they know, what they can create, or what they see missing in the marketplace and turn it into something valuable.

There Is No Single Path to Entrepreneurship

One of the most important things to understand about entrepreneurship is that there is no one way to get started.

Some entrepreneurs begin with a detailed business plan. Others begin because customers start asking them to do more of something they are already good at.

A business might start with:

  • A technical skill

  • A food product or recipe

  • A professional service

  • A creative talent

  • A product idea

  • A side hustle

  • A need within the community

  • A better way to solve an existing problem

The important step is recognizing the opportunity and beginning to build a plan around it.

Ideas Need Support to Grow

Having a good idea is only the beginning.

Entrepreneurs also need to understand customers, pricing, expenses, marketing, operations, and growth. They may need workspace, equipment, mentors, business connections, or simply someone who can help them think through the next step.

That is where entrepreneurial support organizations can make a difference.

At the Shoals Business Incubator, we help entrepreneurs move from ideas to stronger businesses through resources, workspace, guidance, and connections.

For culinary entrepreneurs, the Shoals Culinary Center also provides commercial kitchen space and resources that can help food businesses test, prepare, and grow their concepts.

Community Connections Matter

Entrepreneurship can sometimes feel like an individual journey, but successful business owners rarely build completely alone.

Connections with other entrepreneurs, customers, mentors, educators, community organizations, and business professionals can provide valuable information and opportunities.

One of the benefits of being part of an entrepreneurial community is learning from people who are already doing the work. Their experiences can help new entrepreneurs understand both the opportunities and challenges that come with business ownership.

Global Entrepreneurship Week highlights the importance of those connections by encouraging communities to bring entrepreneurs together and make resources more accessible.

Start with the Next Step

You do not have to know exactly where your business will be five years from now to begin.

Start with the next question:

What problem am I solving?

Who would buy this product or service?

What will it cost to get started?

What should I charge?

Who can help me learn what I do not know?

Small steps can lead to meaningful progress.

Celebrating Entrepreneurship in the Shoals

Global Entrepreneurship Week is an opportunity to recognize the people who take risks, create solutions, and build businesses in communities around the world.

It is also an opportunity to encourage the next entrepreneur who may still be sitting on an idea.

At the Shoals Business Incubator, we are proud to support entrepreneurs at different stages of that journey—from early ideas and side hustles to established businesses preparing for growth.

If you have an idea you have been thinking about, Global Entrepreneurship Week is a good reminder that every business starts somewhere.

Your next step could start today.
